| Changing the subject a bit, the recent live shows have been quite interesting. Last week I did a great house concert in Streetsboro, Ohio called Honky Tonk House Concert Series. The folks there really put on a nice event, and its all about the music. They are major music fans. Check them out at www.honkytonkhouseconcerts.com. I loved how the stage area was surrounded by Muhammad Ali fight pictures! Cool stuff, and anyone who still has the entire Phil Ochs LP collection is cool in my book. Jason Ringenberg |
| Hi Jay, Thanks again to you and your family for opening your house and hosting the show. I didn't find out about the show until I came across your message on the soup last Sat. morning as I was getting caught up on my e-mails. Once I got the info. from on the show, I wavered back and forth all day on whether to go or not, as I've never been to a house concert before. I'm glad I decided to go, of the 3 times I've seen Jason solo now, last weekends house concert was the best show of the three. Like ya mention, Jason did a good mix of solo stuff, Scorcher stuff, and covers. I especially enjoy the Scorcher stuff Jason plays and he didn't disappoint last Sat.----he played a couple songs from CIM in his second set that a couple of us mentioned that where our favorites from that album (2+1=Nothing and I'm Sticking with You), so that was cool. Jason's references to the Muhammad Ali memorabalia surrounding him during the show was funny. What was even cooler, was sitting in your rec. room talking to Jason between sets about carp fishing of all things! I'm a member (actually the Chair for W. PA) for the CAG (Carp Anglers Group) and Jason seemed to pretty amused that there was actually such a thing as a national carp fishing society (actually there are two). And Jason knows a thing or two about carpin', it turns out. Interestingly enough the CAG got its start in Jason's home state of IL----ok, so may be that's not that interesting to most. I mentioned to Jason that if he happened to check out the CAG website forum, he would see that JATS got mentioned a few times in some of the off-topics discussions we've had on music. Before I left, I gave Jason a couple copies of the NACA (North American Carp Angler), the quarterly publication that CAG puts out, that is slowly evolving into the first carp fishing magazine available here in the states---hope he enjoys reading them. Anyhow, when I got up last Sat. morning. I didn't expect to be talkin' carp fishin' with Jason in someone's rec. room in OH and seeing a smokin' show as only the former frontman from the best cow-punk/roots-punk/alt. country/rock/whatever band ever could do, but that's where I ended up Sat. night. And like I said, I'm glad I decided to go. The only thing that woulda been better was if the former guitarist, bassist, drummer from that same band were there playing with the frontman (in which case, I don't think the corner of Jay's rec. room woulda been an adequate stage ), but that's another topic and seemingly not likely to happen again. Back to reality, I'm looking forward to the release of Farmer Jason's new CD. Steve Lojek |
